Attorney Fee Questions - Average Lawyer Fees

What are Average Lawyer Fees ?  A lot of people file malpractice lawsuits against their attorneys over fee disputes. Unfortunately, in most cases, it is because the client did not read the fee agreement thoroughly. Before signing, you must ensure that you fully understand the fee agreement.

Always get your fee agreement in writing from your lawyer.  It will prevent any confusion and misunderstanding from cropping up later. Don’t make oral agreements.

Your fee agreement should include all services that are covered under that agreement. The agreement will also spell out your obligations as a client. It must state whether your lawyer will add any interest to unpaid fees. Your fee agreement should also state whether your attorney’s fees are set by the law, or they have been worked out between the two of you.

Your lawyer could offer you a variety of options to choose from. It could be a flat fee, hourly fees, retainer, or contingency fees. You can agree to any one or a combination of these fees. Each case has different requirements. So, ask your lawyer what will work best for both of you.

Do not sign the agreement if you are unable to understand something. If you are concerned about something, get appropriate changes made in the agreement.  Once you sign it, you fully agree to it. It is better to clear all doubts at this stage, rather than later.

Don’t hesitate to discuss fee issues with your lawyer. He should provide you regular updates on your charges. Since it is your hard-earned money, you should be satisfied with the services rendered.
