In order to have a successful lawsuit and avoid bad lawyer practices, there are certain things clients can do. Here are some tips to avoid problems with your attorney.

First, tell your lawyer everything that is related to your case. Give him every relevant document. Inform your lawyer about any changes or new information that might affect your case. Don’t hold back anything which you think is damaging to your case. Let your lawyer decide which information he wants to use, since that is his job. Lawyers are trained to maneuver any information to their advantage. A seemingly trivial piece of information might turn out to be the clincher in your case.

Remember that your lawyer’s time is your money. Lawyers often have to work under very tight deadlines. Your quick response to your lawyer's requests will ensure those deadlines are met. He will then be better able to prepare his case. In case you want more time, inform your lawyer. It might be possible for him to get an extension from the court. If you want to reschedule a hearing, let your lawyer know ell in advance.

Take your lawyer's legal advice seriously. He is a trained professional. Even if the advice seems strange to you, trust your lawyer’s instincts. When an attorney gives legal advice, he or she may be liable for malpractice if the advice is damaging to your case. Your lawyer is not there to give you his opinion, his job is to act based on the facts.
