Finding A Lawyer

lawyer

When faced with a legal issue that requires lawyer's participation, the only thing worse than not having a lawyer is to have a bad one. You need to depend on your individual judgment when choosing an attorney. Here are some tips to find the right attorney.

A prospective attorney may be overbooked with other clients and may have enough time to give the needed attention to your case. That's a bad lawyer for your case. That attorney needs to immediately tell you that because of their current work load, he or she wouldn't be able to handle your case. If that does not happen, you need to immediately dismiss that attorney and look for another one.

Ask someone whose opinion you trust, or someone who has worked with an attorney before. It may be a family friend, business acquaintance or coworker. These people would not refer you to a bad lawyer if they happen to know one related to your legal requirements.

You must feel very comfortable with the attorney and must feel confident that he or she is the one who can capably handle your needs. Make sure that you interview two or three lawyers before making a decision on which one to work with.

Contact the local or state bar association and ask them to refer you to a lawyer who is in good standing with the bar. Always check with the association if your prospective lawyer has ever been the subject of an ethical complaint or inquiry.
